Following the record A-level results this summer where the boys achieved the 3rd highest individual A-B results in the city and the WCSF secured the 5th highest overall, we were delighted this month to receive the value added results which proved the entire WCSF were third best in the city but the boys achieved the top grade overall from all 19 Sixth Forms in the city. Value added is an important target measure for the school since it records how much progress students make over their two years against the externally set targets for them. The boys’ figure was so high it actually put us in the top 2% of the country for progress achieved – another outstanding achievement in what was a great summer for results.
We were also delighted to hear from the OCR Exam Board with official confirmation that Tom Beasley (left) – one of our Year 11 students who sat A/S Level examinations as part of the Advanced Curriculum in Year 11, managed to score 200/200 marks – a perfect 100% score across two papers making him one of just a few students across the entire country to achieve this magnificent feat! This is even more impressive when you consider that Tom achieved this a year earlier than all of the other candidates! Tom has stayed on into the Sixth Form and is sitting Maths, Further Maths, English Language and Literature and Media Studies in order to go on and achieve his ambition of University and becoming a respected journalist.
Another particular success relating to the Advanced Curriculum is the story of four boys who took Economics as an A/S in Year 11 and continued their studies instead of their enrichment period in Year 12 so they could complete the full A-Level a year early. Mr Griffin, who taught them, said the ‘Four boys were a credit to themselves their families and the school with their positive attitude and hard work.’ They worked really hard through the year and as a consequence of their efforts they went on to achieve the following grades:
Nikesh Mistry – A
Omar Hussain – A
Sunny Parekh – B
Omar Hanif – B
Considering again these were completed a year early these were magnificent achievements in what is considered to be a difficult subject. All four students are now applying to university and commented that they could clearly see the benefits of studying an A/S exam early in Year 11 and that the qualifications achieved would definitely give them an advantage when applying for prestigious university courses. |
