Sporting Aims and Provision for Sport
At Woodlands Academy, we firmly believe in the importance of an exciting and motivating physical education programme for all. The positive attitudes and sporting achievements gained by our students, reflects evidence of our commitment and impact.

Work within the Physical Education Department is designed to support, contribute to and compliment the aims of the school, by providing equality of access for all students to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.

Physical Education aims to provide an enjoyable and satisfying programme, with opportunities for every student to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. The Physical Education curriculum offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences to meet the needs of individual students and encourage active involvement for all as performers, observers and officials.

The structured and developmental schemes of work provide for progression, to challenge and to gain a sense of achievement. The sympathetic selection of learning experiences, ability and maturity appropriate to the student’s experiences aim to support all students in the development of physical competence. This will promote those skills necessary to effectively plan and evaluate movement and movement related activities safely and with confidence.

The development of tolerance, a sense of safe and fair play and good sporting behaviour are consider to be important and essential elements of the learning process. Through active participation in a variety of roles within the activities experienced, students will be encouraged to appreciate their own and others strengths and weaknesses while responding appropriately to the needs of individuals and groups. This area of the curriculum contributes extensively to the area of citizenship.

It is intended that the programme, together with an awareness of leisure opportunities within the community, will develop those skills and attitudes conducive to involvement in an active and healthy lifestyle.

The over- riding aim of the Physical Education programme at Woodlands is to create PHYSICALLY EDUCATED students.
