Year 7/8 Curriculum Overview

The curriculum at KS3 is intended to prepare students for examination of PE during KS4, whilst also enabling the students to experience an extensive range of activities as possible without diluting the quality and depth of the learning experience.
Year 9/10 Curriculum Overview
The curriculum at KS4 is designed to allow all students to exit the key stage and accomplish a level 2 qualification in sport and/or Physical Education. This is achieved by GCSE PE as an entitlement subject for all with an entry at either short course or full course. Students may also wish to extend their studies in Physical Education by opting to study BTEc First in Sport at either Certificate or Diploma level.

GSCE PE has both practical and theoretical aspects. For the practical assessment, students should select 4 sports to perform in. During these practical lessons, students will work on:

  • Individual Practical Skills
  • Coaching
  • Observation and Analysis Skills
The practical aspect of the course is assessed throughout by your PE teacher, and checked by an external moderator towards the end of the course.

During theory lessons, students will be taught a variety of units, including:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Diet, Health and Hygiene
  • Sport Injuries
  • Health, Fitness, Exercise and Performance
The theoretical aspect of the course will be assessed by a single exam, which is taken at the end of the course.

Year 11 Curriculum Overview
Physical Education and sport is offered within our bespoke Y11 curriculum as a return to recreational activities for all. A vast array of sporting activities is offered to our students on a half term basis. The activities are provided by Physical Education teachers utilising their own areas of expertise supported by specialist sports coaches complimenting the programme.

In addition to the recreational sport opportunities, students may also opt to study BTEc Sport (First Certificate or Diploma).
